Octopus III - Eight Servo Driver with Remote Aligner Tool

The Octopus III can drive up to 8 servos to move turnouts or other devices on your layout controlled by a toggle switch, a momentary pushbutton, the output of a signal system or a DCC decoder. There are 8 positions for plugging in R/C type servos and 8 inputs for switches or 5V logic.

The Remote Aligner allows you to stand by the turnout being aligned so you can precisely align the servo endpoints with ease. No more hanging under the layout trying to push buttons. The servo endpoints are found automatically by searching for hard endpoints or you can manually align them with the Remote Aligner. This allows each servo to be adjusted to its optimum range and endpoints and each servo can be independently adjusted. With the Remote Aligner you can set the amount of force used in the automatic alignment to match your rail size and the servos you are using. The board also has jumpers for setting the range from +/-20 degrees around center to +/70 degrees and for centering the servo to simplify installation for applications where there are no hard endpoints or where you are using the same turnouts in all locations. The Octopus III has an on-board high-frequency switching 1.8A power supply that is more efficient than the old linear power supply. This means less heat and a lower power draw. Power input is any power supply from 5.0-24 volts DC.

You can use the same fascia controllers as the Quad. This gives you a simple way to hook up the inputs to the board using servo-style cords and extensions. You can use "Y" cords to use more than one fascia controller to control one servo. You can also use a "Y" to connect two servos to one output (a good way of switching crossovers!).

This board has no DCC input. If you want DCC control of your servos then see the Quad Servo Decoder (QPC002) or you can add an Octocoder (OCD001).

OCD001 OCD001 Octocoder- Stationary DCC Decoder for Octopus III

You can control your Octopus II or III with the Octocoder, a simple stationary DCC decoder. The board provides connections os you can also connect fascia controllers and LEDs for local control. (Will not work with toggle switches however.) No CVs to program - just put on the address junper and issue a turnout command from your throttle to set the address block. Uses 8 consecutive DCC addresses.

FCB011 FCB011 Fascia Controller Kit

Contains PC boards and parts needed to build 4 fascia controllers. The resistors are pre-mounted. An advantage of building from the kit is that you can substitute your own color LEDS (single color only - bicolors will not work in this version). Requires 4 3-wire servo extension cords to hook up to the Octopus II main board. Two kits are needed to fully control 8 servos.

Use for manual throwing of your switches and also provides feedback on servo position when used with DCC/signals. Has 2 yellow LEDs. Mounts using a #4 self-tapping screw (included). Comes with a 12" cord attached. 3-wire servo extensions can be used to extend the reach. By using a "Y" cable, two controllers can be added to one port to provide two control points for one turnout. FCB012 FCB012 Bicolor Fascia Controller for SwitchWright/Quad/QuadLN/Octopus II/Octopus III

This controller is identical to the above controller except that it has two Red/Green Bicolor LEDs instead of the 2 yellow LEDs. Each LED alternates between red and green so both LEDs are lit whereas in the regular yellow LED controller one LED is on at a time. The LED colors in photo are a bit washed out due to the limits of photography. Other than the LEDS it is identical to the single-color Fascia Controller.

FCB013 FCB013 Bi-Color LED Fascia Controller Kit

MFJ003U MFJ003U DCC Mono Frog Juicer (polarity reverser for frogs)

For all DCC systems including NCE PowerCab. This board is an automatic polarity reverser for a single frog. Setup is simple, connect two wires to the DCC bus and one wire to a frog. The frog should be fully isolated. When a train crosses the turnout and the frog is the wrong polarity, the frog juicer will reverse the polarity so quickly that the train and the rest of the DCC system will never notice. Should not be used with boosters over 5 Amps. See the Dual Frog Juicer for 10 Amp boosters.

DFJ003U DFJ003U DCC Dual Frog Juicer/Auto-Reverser/Circuit Breaker

For all DCC systems including NCE PowerCab. This board can be configured to use as an automatic polarity reverser for two frogs, a reversing loop, a turntable, a wye, or a crossing. It can also be used as a circuit breaker to control a power district (with the bonus it will reverse polarity if needed). It uses the same basic design as the hex frog juicer but has 33 Amp transistors so it can be used with multi-unit lashups and 10 Amp boosters. Setup is simple, connect the input to the DCC track bus, and connect the output wires either to two frogs or two rails. A jumper controls whether the two outputs act as a pair (i.e. an auto-reverser) or independently (i.e. a pair of frog juicers). Another pair of jumpers controls the current set point for switching, either 2 Amps or 4 Amps. When used for frogs or crossings generally 2 Amps work best and for an auto-reversing application, 4 Amps generally works best.

MFC001 MFC001 Mount for Fascia Controller

Made of precision 1/8" thick laser-cut acrylic, these mounts can be used to neatly mount your fascia controllers. Simply use a 1-3/8" hole saw to place on your fascia. The four included screws hold it securely in place and the recess keeps the button safely out of the way of bellies. The dark plastic makes the LEDs stand out. Comes as a kit that includes the 2 pieces and 4 screws. The pieces can be easily glued together with solvent designed for acrylics as MEK and other styrene glues will NOT work. Just put the pieces together and flow a small amount of solvent on with a brush. Can be spray-painted a different color or used as is. Size 1.5" x 1.5" x 1/4" deep (without parts mounted).

LED001 LED001 DCC Decoder for LEDs - 3 Output Lighting Decoder

This handy little decoder can be used to drive LEDs in a variety of lighting applications. It can be used to drive 3-LED signal heads. it is set up for JMRI (type Double Output). Can also be used to light a building or a car. with the flicker function it can imitate a flickering light bulb, a welding arc or a campfire. Although the outputs are marked R Y G for ease of wiring to a signal head, any color LED can be used. In addition there is a mode for driving a 2-lead bi-color LED.The decoder uses 2 consecutive DCC addresses - one controls the R output and the other controls the G output. If both are on then the Y output is lit.

TNS001 TNS001 DCC Train Shuttle

Train Shuttle, includes 12 volt power supply (see below) and laser-cut acrylic front bezel by Monster Model Works. Everything you need to run a train except some track and a bit of wire.Use the Train Shuttle to automatically run a train back and forth for demos, breaking in locomotives or just for fun. Also makes a really simple way to run a DCC locomotive with its speed and direction controls.The train shuttle is a DCC command station/throttle with built-in detectors that can automatically reverse direction and simulate a station stop. It works with any locomotive with the address range 1-99. No need to program the locomotive - just take it out of the box and put it on the track. End detection - the Train Shuttle has built in current detectors that use a gap in the rail to isolate a detection section. One rail, the common rail is ungapped. The other rail uses gaps (either cut a gap or use an insulated rail joiner) to make isolated detection sections at both ends. When the train reaches the end it crosses the gap and the Train Shuttle sends it a DCC command to stop and then to reverse direction. Knobs on the front panel adjust the stop time from 0 to 60 seconds. Station Stop - The Train Shuttle can also simulate a station stop by putting gaps in the middle. When the train crosses in to this section, the Train Shuttle sends the DCC commands to stop, waits for the delay time set by a knob, and then proceeds on in the same direction as before.Accessory Commands - the Train Shuttle sends DCC accessory commands (also called stationary decoder commands or switch commands) when the ends are reached. DCC Train Shuttle 16-bit Address Programming Adapter (Optional). The Train Shuttle works as it comes with short, 2-digit addresses in the range 1-99 as it comes.  It will also work decoders that have a consist address in this range. Almost all locomotives come programmed to the default short address 3 and will work straight away with Train Shuttle. This programming adapter allows the programming of up to 16 long or 4-digit addresses in to the Train Shuttle.  In some cases you may it more expedient to add 4-digit addresses with this adapter than to reprogram the locomotive decoder. The adapter plugs in to a 3-pin plug on the back.  You can then use the 4 dials to set a 4-digit address.  The address will be saved when the power is turned off.

SRC001 SRC001 Servo Centreing Tool

Use this handy portable tool to keep your servos centered while you mount them under the layout. The tool consists of a battery box connected to a small circuit board that continuously puts out a centering signal for the servo (1.5 ms pulse). Keeping your servos porperly centered while mounting is the key to making the servos work best. The battery box has an on/off switch to save your batteries when not in use. Everyone using servos for turnouts needs one of these.Requires 3 AA batteries.

NBZ001 No-Buzz In-Line Servo Quieter

Sometimes a servo will buzz or chatter continuously.Some poeple find this very annoying. The No-Buzz goes in line with the servo cord and quiets the servo. Here is how it works - if the servo is stopped in the same position for more than about a second the circuit turns off the servo. If the servo starts moving again it will turn it on and drive the servo until it stops again. When the servo is stopped the gears will hold most switches in place. If you use the SwitchWright geometry then the wire acts as a over-the-center spring and also holds the points while the servo is off.A side benefit of the No-Buzz is that you do not need to adjust the servo as precisely but can overdrive the position and let the servo relax back after it turns off.

TRN001 Tam Valley Turn on Module

TurnOn Module - Soft Start Circuit For Large Inrush Currents of Sound Decoders and Stay Alive Decoders. If you have a lot of sound decoders and decoders with stay alive circuits on the track, they can confuse the booster when it starts up in to thinking there is a short because of the sudden current draw of all the capacitors. This circuit prevents that problem by putting a small resistance in to the circuit to slow the current rush and once the voltage gets up a 10 Amp relay bypasses the resistor so that there is a straight connection to the booster.If you have no idea what the previous explanation about and you are not having any touble with starting your layout then you don't need the TurnOn. Note: will not work if the final load is over 60% or so of the capacity of the command station. I.e. if you have a 5 Amp command station and are trying to run a 3 Amp load of locomotives, or more, then the TurnOn may not work. In this case you proabably need more power or use toggles switches to turn off some of the tracks with idling locomotives. Connect the TurnOn directly after the booster and before any other components. Resistor is 0.5 Ohms 20Watt. Relay is 10 Amps and turns on at about 10Volts on the track. Diodes prevent the startup pulse of the relay from getting on to the DCC bus. Will also work with other brands of boosters and command stations.
